Our ethos
We are the FLINTA* (women, lesbians, intersex, non-binary, trans and agender) sports group of Roter Stern Berlin.
We founded this sports group because we wanted to offer sports that isn’t just about self-optimisation and can take place away from the usual pressure to perform and competitive thinking. Because sports can and should above all be fun and give us (back) a positive feeling about ourselves and our bodies.
What does that mean for us?
We want to create spaces where we can feel as free and safe as possible, without being exposed to the looks and judgements of endo-cis men (i.e. non-intersex men who identify with the gender they were assigned at birth).
To live up to this, we want to create a setting in which we can be kind, considerate and forgiving of mistakes with each other and look out for one another.
We do not tolerate discriminatory or exclusionary behavior. We can’t protect ourselves and others from (verbal) missteps and hurt, but we can learn to become sensitive to them, to be approachable and to take responsibility for our behavior so that we grow from it together as a group. For us, this describes the emancipatory idea of a left-wing, queer-feminist sports group.
Diversity and solidarity
We notice and take seriously our differences in bodies, age, (social) background, socialisation and identities, which is why we want to adapt our sports to our diverse needs.
Because we don’t want anyone to be unable to do sports with us due to a lack of money, there is also the option of paying a solidarity fee (8 euros a month) for membership.
Self-organised
We are a self-organised sports group. In practice this means that we are also involved in designing and running our sports – from preparing training sessions or organizational meetings to taking on roles in the club.
We are also aware that, with our different life circumstances, we can’t all contribute equally. We try to take this into account and keep the fun of sports at the center.
That’s why we invite everyone to join us. Whether it’s to box or kick a ball stress-free again, to have a drink with us at the plenary or to get involved in a FLINTA group in club sports.
We are happy about every person who finds joy and appreciation in sports.
