Since 2022, Roter Stern Berlin has regularly organized international learning mobilities as part of Erasmus+ Sports. Professionals, volunteers and active members of the club visit partner organizations in sports and youth social work, shadow everyday training and exchange ideas about methods, experiences and challenges.
The focus is on job shadowing, coaching and joint work assignments, where participants gain insight into different approaches to sports work and can get actively involved themselves. Over the years, this has grown into a lively network that keeps expanding and enables new partnerships.
What began with the exchange in Marseille has been developing since 2026 into a broader European network: besides Marseille, learning mobilities now also take place in Istanbul and Athens – further partnerships and encounters are already being planned.
Alongside the exchanges for professionals, there are also joint activities for young people – such as meetings between boxers from different cities who use sports as a shared space of experience.
Our cooperation focuses particularly on the so-called Quartiers Nord in the north of Marseille – districts that in many ways face challenges similar to those we know from Wedding. It is exactly this comparison that makes the exchange so valuable: we learn from each other how sports can promote social participation and reach people in everyday life.
The encounters bring concrete ideas back to Berlin. Inspired by the work of our partner Groupe Addap13, for example, we created the Kiezsportbus, an open and decentralised exercise program in the Soldiner Kiez.
Through further international meetings and partnership-building activities, the network keeps growing and opens up new opportunities for our members for exchange, cooperation and joint projects across borders.
