What the project is about
At Roter Stern we see sports not only as training but as a space for learning and experience. Sports activities at schools create low-threshold access to sports and community – especially for children who would otherwise find it hard to find their way into a club.
Our work is guided by enabling participation and getting children excited about exercise, self-confidence and learning together at an early age.
Why School & Club
From the schoolyard into the club and the neighborhood
Much of what we learn from working in schools flows into other projects of Roter Stern Berlin. As with our international exchange projects, new ideas emerge directly from practical work with children and young people.
In this way, school sports activities, open neighborhood projects and club structures come together in a shared approach: sports as a space for education, encounter and social development.
What we actually do
Sports and exercise in everyday school life
Regular sports and exercise sessions right at schools create low-threshold access to movement and community.
Cooperation between school and club
We connect school activities with club life and make it easy for children to join our sports groups.
Educationally guided training formats
Our instructors work with a sports-education approach and strengthen teamwork, self-confidence and social skills.
Transitions into club sports
Interested children can continue beyond the school context and become part of the club in the long term.
What comes out of it
Early access to sports and exercise
Children gain positive experiences of exercise regardless of previous experience or financial means.
Stronger links between school and neighborhood
Sports become a bridge between place of learning, leisure and social environment.
Long-term participation in club life
First contacts turn into lasting ties to sports, community and engagement.
Ideas for other projects in the club
Experiences from school work flow into open neighborhood activities and other social projects of Roter Stern Berlin.
Who we work for
Our activities are aimed at schools, teachers and above all children and young people who would like more space for exercise in everyday school life. Low-threshold access is particularly important to us: participation should be possible regardless of sporting experience or social background.
By working with schools, we reach children directly in their everyday lives and open up new paths into sports, community and club life.
- Primary and secondary schools
- School classes and after-school clubs
- Children with and without club experience
- Institutions around our neighborhood work
Cooperation & getting involved
We run our “School & Club” activities through the program of the Berlin Sports Federation (Landessportbund Berlin, LSB). Together with the schools we look at which sports or exercise activity suits the group, the school day and the facilities.
Our instructors plan and lead the sessions in close consultation with teachers and school staff. Activities can take place regularly over the school year or as project-based formats. The goal is lasting cooperation that anchors exercise in children’s everyday lives in the long term.
