School, orientation and university internships
Want to see how a self-organised sports club works? You can do a school internship or an orientation internship with us – and, by arrangement, an internship as part of your degree. You shadow our sports groups, the club office and our projects and get real insight into training, organisation and club work.

What you do with us
As an intern you shadow us – and get to know the club from different angles.
In the sports groups
You accompany training sessions, help with setting up and exercises and support the participants – always alongside the coaches.
In the club office
You take a look behind the scenes: membership administration, planning, public relations, projects and events.
In projects
You join our projects and events – for example the Kiezsportbus, international youth exchanges or trips to memorial sites.
Good for your career path
An internship with us is a good start if you are interested in a career in sport and club work. You get to know both sides: hands-on work in the sports groups and how a club is run from the club office.
Sports and fitness management assistant
A dual vocational training in Germany (Sport- und Fitnesskaufleute), usually three years – in sports clubs, federations, gyms or other sports providers.

Instructor and coach
Instructors (Übungsleiter*innen) lead recreational sports groups, coaches support athletes in their sport up to competition level. Licences are issued by the regional sports federation and the sport-specific federations – the entry level is the C licence.

University internship
Are you studying sports science or a subject that fits our club purposes – education, culture and youth work? Then, by arrangement, an internship as part of your degree is possible.
- for example sports science, social work, education or cultural studies
- Tell us in your request what your university requires: duration, hours and supervision
Coming soon: FSJ. We are working on offering a voluntary social year (Freiwilliges Soziales Jahr, FSJ) in the future.
How your internship works

Request
Send your request to the board: vorstand@roter-stern.berlin. Tell us when, for how long and in what context you would like to do an internship – as a school internship, an orientation internship or an internship as part of your degree.

Decision
The board decides on your request and gets back to you.

Arrangements
If the board agrees, you work out the details with Markus Lenz and Kai Friedhoff: dates, sports groups, projects, days and tasks in the club office. Kai then draws up your internship plan.

Shadowing
Off you go! In the sports groups, the coaches and group leads are there for you. For everything else, Markus Lenz is your contact person.

Your request goes to the board. The board is responsible for all internships and decides on every request.

Once your internship is approved, works out the details with you and Markus and draws up the plans for your time in the sports groups, the club office and our projects.

Keeps track of all internships, works out the details with you and Kai once your internship is approved and remains your contact person throughout your internship.
Coaches and group leads
Support in the sports groups
Take you along to training, explain how things work and are there for you in each sports group.
Child protection applies to internships too
Children and young people train in many of our groups. Anyone who shadows us follows our child protection rules. We will talk through what this means for your internship beforehand.
